Dear Diary,

As much as I love my clip-in extensions, I want to be sure I give my natural hair some love, too! Taking care of your hair is KEY when it comes to long term hair growth, restoration, and even maintaining your color!

Lucky for you babe, you don’t have to do any digging to find out the best kept secrets on natural hair growth. I’ve broken down a few of my favorite ways to keep my locks healthy and growing, no matter what season of life I am in! 

1. Avoid overly restrictive dieting!

While it is so important to take care of what you are consuming, it’s also important to not overdo it. Sometimes when we go on diets that are TOO restrictive, we are cutting out essential food groups and nutrients that our bodies need to keep producing cells, and more importantly, hair! 

2. Check your proteins!

I know it sounds silly, but having a lack of proteins in your diet can cause excess shedding from your roots! This means that over time, you do lose quite a bit of natural hair if you are not having enough protein!

3. Try to use caffeine-infused products for a change!

No, I don’t mean coffee caffeine! I mean hair-specific products that are infused with caffeine! Ask your stylist for their favorite recommendations, and don’t try any “at home” remedies! Remember, hair care is self care!

4. Boost your nutrients!

People don’t often realize it, but making sure you are getting all of your vitamins and minerals is crucial to maintaining a healthy and balanced lifestyle - not to mention healthy hair! Some vitamins and minerals that you should be adding to your daily intake are Biotin, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, Zinc, Iron, Omega-3, and Omega-6!

5. Indulge in a scalp massage using oils!

While scalp massages are wildly relaxing, they also boost the health of your hair! Daily, 4-minute scalp massages has been proven to show a noticeable difference in hair growth. Add some hair oils to the mix, and your hair will be singing your praises!
