The Iconic Boho Braid Tutorial

The Iconic Boho Braid Tutorial

Dear Diary,

With one of the most famous summer holidays quickly approaching, I wanted to bring back the boho braid tutorial that is sure to turn heads while you’re poolside!

Not only are braids chic and easy to create, they’re also great for keeping your clip-in hair extensions free of tangles and away from sunscreen. Remember this summer, ladies: sunscreen and hair extensions don’t mix!

First, you want to place one of your single clip-ins just under the part of your hair. This will ensure that the braid is nice and thick! Plus, you’ll be able to hide the clip in the braid. For this look, we’re going for one loose braid to frame your pretty face, but you can create this same braid using ALL of your hair!

Next, it’s important to start the braid with some clip-in hair and some of your own hair. Divide that handful of hair into two sections.

The key here is to take a small section of hair from one side and cross it over to the opposite side. I like to pull from the backside of a section of hair, cross it over the top, and join it with the other side.

A little insider tip? Keep your small sections roughly the same size as you go so that your braid is symmetrical!

Of course, as you get down toward the bottom of your hair, the braid will get thinner and your sections will get smaller and smaller. Secure your braid with a clear elastic, and you’re almost there!

One of the most important steps in creating a carefree, cool look is to MESS IT UP! It may feel wrong after all that careful braiding, but hear me out. Pulling out your braid like you see in this video makes it even FULLER and gives it all the volume you never knew you needed!

Finish off with a bit of hairspray and voilà! You have a look you can rock all summer long!

If you want to upgrade your look even further, you can take a small piece of hair and wrap it around the elastic to hide it! I’ll often just tuck that little of hair into the back of the elastic to keep it in place or use a bobby pin hidden in the braid.
