The Beginner's Guide to Hair Care Routines

The Beginner's Guide to Hair Care Routines

Dear Diary,

When I first fell in love with wearing clip-in extensions, I wasn’t sure how to best care for both my pretty hair, and my real hair! Although my Xo Britt clip-ins are damage-free, it’s still important to take care of your natural locks to ensure you maintain as much color and health as possible until you see your stylist at your next salon visit.

Lucky for you, I’ve broken down my favorite, easy-to-follow hair care routine that leaves my locks shining from day to night.

1. Wake Up, and Brush!

The best way to start off with a good hair day is with a nice, easy, brush out first thing in the morning! If you wash your hair at night like me, this is the best thing you can do for your pretty hair after a night of sleeping on it! I recommend brushing from the middle of your head in a downward motion, working your way up to the scalp. Be sure to not pull too hard on any knots or tangles! Patience is key.

2. Add Oil

After you’re done brushing out your pretty hair, you’ll want to add some oil on the tips! You don’t need much, a small droplet will do the trick! Make sure to evenly distribute the oil throughout the tips, ensuring that each piece is covered with a little love. If you’re not sure that you evenly spread the oil, using your brush to run back through the ends of your pretty hair is an insider’s trick to getting the job done every time.

3. Massage Your Scalp

After you’ve applied the oil to the tips, take the remaining residue that is left on your fingers and gently massage your scalp. Massaging the scalp is a perfect way to open up the follicles and promote healthy hair growth.

4. Style with Care

Once you’ve finished up your morning routine, you can move into the styling phase! When it comes to styling as part of your pretty hair care routine, I recommend keeping all of your hot tools at 375 degrees or lower. And remember, babe…ALWAYS use a heat protectant!

5. Brush It Out

If you’re anything like me, all you want to do at the end of the day is toss your hair up into a messy bun and kick back; however, when it comes to having pretty hair, it’s important to show it some love at the end of the day!

I know it sounds simple, but running a brush through your locks at the end of the day is the easiest way to breathe some life back into it! I highly recommend brushing your hair both right side up, and upside down to ensure all of the little snags are undone. Trust me, you and your hair will thank me later!

6. Add Oil

After you’re done brushing out your pretty hair, you’ll want to add some oil on the tips just like you did in the morning! You don’t need much again, a small droplet will do the trick! Make sure to evenly distribute the oil throughout the tips, ensuring that each piece is covered with a little love. If you’re not sure that you evenly spread the oil, use your brush to run back through the ends of your pretty hair.

7. Massage Your Scalp

Yes, babe! You guessed it. After you’ve applied the oil to the tips, take the remaining residue that is left on your fingers and gently massage your scalp. Just as you did in your morning routine, massaging the scalp is a perfect way to open up the follicles and promote healthy hair growth.

8. Protection is Key

Once your oil has been added and your scalp has received it’s second massage for the day, you will want to protect that pretty hair while you sleep! My favorite way to protect my hair when I sleep is to put it in a low, loose braid. This prevents any tangles from happening, and helps your hair to absorb the oils you added quickly and easily! If you’re an over achiever, grab a silk pillow or night cap and catch some z’s!

That’s it for now, babe, but don’t forget to tune in next week and let me know which part of this hair care routine you tried!
