Summer Extensions Tips

Summer Extensions Tips

Dear Diary,

It’s officially June, and I don’t know about you, but I’m dying to soak up the summer sun every chance I get! From poolside days to building sandcastles at the beach, or even hopping on the boat at the lake, it’s crucial to know all about the care your pretty hair needs to ensure you AND your hair have the best summer yet.

The real secret behind having long-lasting clip-in hair extensions throughout the summer? TAKING THEM OUT! That’s right, when I’m getting in the pool, getting in the ocean, or getting on a boat, I choose to leave my pretty hair at home on one of my hair hangers.

You’re probably thinking, “Why would I want to leave my hair at home?! I want to look great poolside!” Trust me, I’m with you! The problem is that chlorine, salt water, and wind can be super damaging to your hair extensions. The hair can get matted, tangled, and discolored over time, and the truth is, we want your investment to last.

That’s why my team of hair experts and I recommend saving your pretty hair for a night out at your favorite beach bar instead! As long as you’re staying out of the water and high winds, you’ll still be the most iconic babe on the block.

And most importantly you have to remember: sunscreen and hair extensions DO NOT MIX! This is the most important piece of advice I can give you. Avobenzone, the chemical in sunscreen, will turn your extensions pink or orange, and it can be practically impossible to get out.

Of course, we want you to protect your skin from sun damage, so we recommend using a mineral-based sunscreen that does NOT contain avobenzone. So if you’re at that beach bar or waterfront restaurant wearing your extensions during the day and need a little extra sunscreen, as an extra precaution I recommend keeping your hair up in a high pony or bun to keep it from brushing your shoulders and back that should be covered in sunscreen!

So, to recap:

  • Avoid salt and chlorine water
  • Don't wear your extensions on a boat (unless you’re cruising out of the wind below deck!)
  • Avoid sunscreen

Stick to these summer hair care tips and your clip-in hair extensions will stay as good as new!
