Kiss Dry Hair Goodbye This Winter

Dear Diary,
Winter is officially here, and now that the colder weather is here to stay, you may have noticed your hair and skin beginning to feel a little dry. Don't you worry babe, we can fix that!  We are giving you the low-down on how to keep your hair silky, smooth, and healthy, so you can kiss your dry hair goodbye!

First thing's first: why does hair get so dry in the winter? Cooler air can hold less moisture than warm air. Because the air is naturally dryer during the winter months, all of the moisture in our body, skin, and hair gets wicked away.

So, what can we do to keep our natural hair and our clip-ins in tip-top shape this winter? Here are our best pointers to avoid frizz and keep the pretty hair of your dreams, even during the coldest days of the season.

1. Use Deep Conditioning Products
Dry hair and dry air call for extra-moisturizing products. We recommend investing in a conditioner formulated to nourish and moisturize dry or damaged hair. Weekly leave-in conditioner or hair masque treatments can help hydrate your strands from the inside out. Pro tip: the HERA Superhuman Hair Mask is one of our absolute favorites!

2. Wash Your Hair Less Frequently
Your scalp creates natural oils that are great at hydrating your hair and keeping it healthy. What does this mean? Washing your hair too frequently and stripping it of those natural oils can dry your strands out, especially in the wintertime. Sometimes less is more, especially when it comes to washing natural hair and extensions. Because clip-ins don't absorb as much oil as natural hair, they don't need to be washed as regularly! We recommend washing your extensions about once a month, depending on how frequently you wear them. Here's a video that will help answer some of your hair care concerns!

3. Use a Hair Serum
After you've washed your hair, try applying a hair serum to lock in moisture before exposing it to the cold, dry air. Did you know that hair serums are formulated to prevent moisture from leaving, especially when exposed to the outdoors? Hair serums also minimize frizz and boost smoothness and shine—common problems among dry hair. Our go-to serum? The Goddess Gloss Serum from HERA, which is intentionally designed for extensions and chemically treated hair!

4. Invest in a Humidifier
Investing in a humidifier can help add moisture back into your home and prevent your hair and skin from losing hydration. Adding moisture back into the air will prevent as much of it from evaporating from your hair and leaving you with dry, frail strands. Humidifiers also have perks to keep your skin glowing, too!

And just like that, you are on your way to soft, silky, and smooth hair! Pro Tip: Xo Britt clip-ins are 100% human, Remy hair, so with proper care and maintenance, they will look amazing, even during the winter months!
