Hot Girl Summer Style Guide

Hot Girl Summer Style Guide

6 minute read

Dear Diary,

Hot Girl Summer is the only summer I’m interested in! Between the outdoor concerts, lake days, and sunny vacations, this is my favorite time of year to really have fun with my hairstyles! I’ve gathered up some of my favorite styles that are perfect for these warmer days. It’s time for you to live your own Hot Girl Summer one piece of pretty hair at a time!

Space Buns with Sass

I know you’ve heard me gush over the space bun style before, but this summer we’re adding some extra sass!

Step 1: Begin by parting your hair down the middle, dividing it into two sections!

Step 2: Start on the left side of your part and begin braiding your hair back towards your crown. When you’ve braided about halfway towards your crown, gently secure the braid with a bobby pin.

Step 3: Gather the remaining hair, and finish off this left side with a classic space bun and secure any loose hairs with an additional bobby pin.

Repeat on the right side! If you want to add some volume to your braid, gently pull apart each portion of the braid to open up the style and give it that extra va-va-voom!

Want to add some extra volume to your buns? Don’t be shy, add in some of my individual clip-ins!

Double Trouble Fishtail Ponytails

Next up is also a fan favorite of mine - the fishtail ponytail! But this time, we’re doubling it up! Now y’all now I’m a sucker for any sassy ponytail style, but this one is perfect for a day out on the water!

Step 1: Pull all of your natural hair into a tight ponytail - I typically like to place mine at the top of my crown, or right in the middle of the back of my head.

Step 2: Once your ponytail is secured, add in some texturizing spray for some grip and add in your Xo Britt Ponytail to give yourself some extra length and volume to work with.

Step 3: Once your Xo Britt Ponytail has been added, split the ponytail into two sections. I prefer to have one larger section, and one smaller section to make the look more fun and playful, but you really can make this look your own with your personal preference! Once the ponytail is split into two sections, clip away the section you’re not working with.

Step 4: Begin fishtailing the section of hair, all the way down to the tip, securing it with an elastic.

Step 5: Switch over to the next section of hair, and repeat the same process until you have met the end of your ponytail and secure with a second elastic. Now you should have two fishtail ponytails! Gently pull apart each portion of the braid to add that extra volume. Finish was hairspray, and rock your fishtail ponytails out all night!

Oversized Braids

This one goes out to all of my braid babes out there - hot girl summer was made for YOU!

The beauty behind braids is that they can be woven into any hairstyle to elevate your look in a matter of minutes. No matter if you’re attending a wedding, heading into the office, or just want to rock a cute style while running errands, adding a braid into your hairstyle is the key to achieving that “lived in luxe” feel.

But the secret to achieving the hot girl summer braid for 2022? Oversize it! That’s right, the bigger the braid, the better! Add in your braid to whatever hairstyle you are creating, securing the tail of it into your style. Once the braid is fully secured against your head, you’ll want to gently pull apart each portion of hair that weaves into the braid itself so you can really max out that volume.

Once your braid has reached it’s full capacity, lay down and flyaways with your favorite hairspray because before you know it, you’ll be rocking the baddest braid on the block.

Sleek Buns

We all adore supermodel Bella Hadid, but what we love most is her iconic fashion sense, and most importantly - her hairstyles. One of Bella’s iconic looks that has been sweeping the streets is her “model off work” sleek bun.

Step 1: Begin by parting your hair down the middle, and brushing out any knots, untangling your hair completely.
Step 2: Next, take a generous amount of mousse, and apply it all over your hair from root to tip. Take a quarter-sized dab of hair paste or pomade and work it in from the front of your hairline pulling all the way back. Focus on getting the paste/pomade to the sides of your head at your temple, as well as at the top of your head. If you need more, make sure to add it in bit by bit!
Step 3: Take a boar bristle brush and start combing in a diagonally-upward fashion (instead of straight or backwards) flattening any bumps along the way. Continue this brushing technique and gather all your hair together. At this point, you can decide how high or low you want to wear your sleek bun. With all your hair held back, you can opt to add more pomade/paste to tame any flyaways.
Step 4: Once you’re happy with the position of your ponytail, take a hair tie and secure it in place, tying it as tightly as you can. For this step, sometimes I like to pull out some baby hairs from the bun and give it some edge.

If you’re looking to add more volume to your bun, add in your Xo Britt Ponytail Extension for a fuller look, securing with extra bobby pins and hairspray. That’s it! You’re now ready to rock the runways.

Accessorized Ponytails

When the temperatures are high, you tend to want your hair off your neck — but, to elevate a simple low ponytail, don’t be afraid to go all-out with hair accessories. This can be anything from hair gems, to blinged out bobby pins, or even barrettes! This summer, we’re anticipating lots of accessorized ponies that use eye-catching clips and other trinkets to add a pop to the classic updo.
