Common Mistakes To Avoid With Extensions

Common Mistakes To Avoid With Extensions

4 minute read

Dear Diary,

One question we get asked every day is “Okay, I’ve got my extensions and they’re beautiful- but now what!?” We totally get it, you want to make sure you make the most of your investment and that your pretty hair stays looking it’s best! It can be overwhelming if you’ve never had extensions before, so today we’re sharing some of our favorite tips to maintaining and making the most of your extensions!

Avoid Over-washing

If you’re new to clip-in extensions, there’s one tip that is tried and true that we will always stand by: don’t over wash.

It may seem counter productive to your usual wash routine, but clip-in extensions require much less maintenance than your natural hair when it comes to washing. Our best advice? Wash your clip-ins every 2 months or so, and at all costs, avoid sweating, swimming, or any other activities that can cause the hair to break down when rocking your clips.

Remember, these clip-in extensions are Remy Human Hair which means they need to be treated with the highest level of care when it comes to washing. And as always, stick to your sulfate and paraben free products, and you will be safe from breakage and damage!

Installation is Everything

You’ve heard us say it before, and we’ll say it again: installation is everything!

Because we wanted to provide an easy, at-home experience with luxury hair extensions when we started this line, it was our goal to make installing those extensions as effortless as possible for anyone who purchases them. No matter if you’re a beginner or an expert when it comes to clip-ins, each of our sets comes with an installation guide to ensure you get the perfect placement every single time.

Why is this so important? Improper installation can not only cause damage and breakage to your natural hair over time, but it also takes away from the experience of getting to achieve the hair of your dreams.

Always remember to slow down, and enjoy the beauty of becoming iconic.

Chemical Contamination

No matter what time of year it is, we cannot stress this enough: avoid any products with avobenzone in them, specifically sunscreen!

If you’re new here, avobenzone is a chemical that is included in most drug store sunscreens, and can actually cause your extensions to turn a peachy-pink shade if you aren’t careful!

We know what you’re thinking - “what else can I use then?!” Well, lucky for you, there are several avobenzone-free sunscreens on the market that are perfect for extensions including Sun Bum and Bare Republic. Click here to shop our hair expert’s favorites!

Bad Blending

Last, but certainly not least, one major mistake you want to avoid is a bad blend. If there’s one thing we’ve all been witness to (and honestly never want to witness again) it’s a bad hair extensions blend.

Not only can a bad blend make it obvious that you’re wearing extensions, but it distracts from the intention of the extensions in the first place: to add to your natural beauty. Whatever you do, always be sure to use your hot tool of choice to perfectly blend your natural hair with your clip-ins. Our personal choice? The Iconic Iron of course!

Keep it Simple

If there’s one thing to know about extensions, it’s to not overdo it. Because your Xo Britt clip-ins are made of 100% Remy human hair, it’s important to keep the product usage to a minimum to protect your investment in the long run.

This means avoiding heavy masks, picking a lighter serum and using it sparingly, and not over-using products that weigh your hair down.

That’s it for now babe! Don’t forget to avoid these common mistakes in order to achieve the hair of your dreams and shop the full collection of clip-ins here! We can’t wait to see

Xo Britt 💋
