5 TikTok Tutorials to Try

Dear Diary,

We’ve all seen the TikTok craze over hair tutorials, so I want to bring some of the most popular styles straight to you with Iconic Expert Terra Harvell!

The Ponytail Lift

For those of you with finer hair, this secret trick is proven to give your hair the extra lift it needs to to look like the party pony you’ve always dreamed of. You’ll start by flipping your hair upside down, sectioning off a small portion at the base of your neck, and flipping it back. Next, tease your hair at the base, and install your clip-ins in the direction your hair is going. I know it sounds crazy, but if you need the visuals, you can watch Terra’s tricks here! Once you’ve installed about 2-3 clip-ins, grab that initial layer of hair you pulled back at the base of your neck, and re-join it with the rest of your ponytail to cover the clip-ins. Now all you have left to do is smooth out any little bumps, and secure with an elastic! This TikTok favorite can be done with a full set of clip-ins, or some of our individual clips!

Space Buns

When it comes to the space bun, this is a favorite we have seen time and time again, but what better way is there to add some extra volume than with clip-ins?! Begin by dividing your hair into two parts down the center of your scalp. On the left side, secure the hair with a clip - we’ll come back to this in a minute! From there, you’ll want to flip your hair upside down and try that clip-in trick mentioned above. Pull a small lower layer back, install the clip-in in the direction of your hair, cover up the clip, and boom! You’re ready to secure it into a bun with your elastic. Repeat this same process on the left side of your head and finish the look off by pulling apart the hair to create additional volume. Want to see this tutorial close up? Check it out here!

The Half-Up Twist

The iconic half-up twist is one of my all-time favorites! Start by creating a half-up, half-down style and securing the elastic. Next, loses the elastic down the back of your section, creating a hole in the middle of the section where you will want to flip the ponytail through. If you want to see it done up close, watch the tutorial here! Once you have achieved the flip, gather a second section of hair directly under the first ponytail, tie it off, and flip it again! Pull the twists to add volume and that’s it!

The Modern Bubble Braid

Now we’ve all seen the traditional bubble braid, but have you ever seen one that wraps all the way around your head?! In this video, Terra begins by grabbing a small section of hair and wrapping a small clear elastic around the section, creating a small bubble. She continues to work her way around to the middle of the back of the head, and then repeats the process on the opposite side. Once the other side is complete, she joins the two sides together in the middle, securing with a final elastic and pulling apart the hair to create volume in each portion of the bubble braid. It really is that simple!

The Claw-Clip - https://www.instagram.com/reel/CdgFLSwtD0j/

Last but not least is the viral claw clip! This claw clip style in particular is one of my favorites because of how effortless it appears, and is so easy to do! Simply gather a small section of hair at the top of your crown with the hair in one hand, and the claw clip in the other. Cross your hand with the claw clip over their hair, twist with your wrist, and secure the loop of hair you just picked up against the back of the head. To catch all of the little details, you can check out the video tutorial here!
